The Gas Directive and the Implications for Offshore Pipelines In the North Sea - The E.C. Gas Directive provides for a gradual liberalisation of the European gas market as a result of which suppliers and consumers can negotiate directly the sale and purchase of natural gas. Pipeline access is a sine qua non for such policy. Following current industry practice, a special regime applies to upstream pipelines. This article will examine the relevant provision in the Directive and the way in which it is implemented in the North Sea.
