Zusammenfassung: J13"C""H coupling constants in a number of polysubstituted methanes CH"2X"2 and CHX"3 have been analyzed in terms of substituent electronegativity. The latter parameter does not fit additively a correlation previously found for the J13"C""H constants in monosubstituted methanes.Since all substituents show a deviation in the same direction from an additivity rule and this deviation is related to the electronegativity of X, a general expression for the J13"C""H of all the polysubstituted methanes considered in terms of substituent electronegativity and CX bond distance is derived.
