The quark model is used to determine potentials and magnetic-moment operators operating on states consisting of N and/or N^*. It is found that strong cancellations take place between effects from wave-function renormalization and cross terms between N and N^* states. Hence, even a sizable N^* component does not shift the magnetic moments of ^3He and ^3He much from their Schmidt values. Further, we take into account the two-N^* state in the trinucleon system as well as the one-N^* state. We also evaluate the two-body exchange magnetic moments coming from the so-called Born term, including the contributions from the transitions between the S-state and the D-state, the S-state and the one-N^* state and the S-state and the two-N^* state. They are all additive with the same sign. The calculated values of the isoscalar and the isovector parts are μ"c"a"l^s = 0.42-0.43 and μ"c"a"l^v = 2.61-2.67, which are close to the experimental values μ"e"x"p^s = 0.426 and μ"e"x"p^v = 2.553. Corrections to the β-decay amplitude are discussed briefly.
