B. Jongeling, A Classified Bibliography of the Finds in the Desert of Judah, 1958–1969 / ביבליוגראפיה חדשה של המגילות הגנוזות

The Bibliography of the Dead Sea Scrolls compiled by B. Jongeling is a continuation to the compilation of W. S. LaSor, Bibliography of the Dead Sea Scrolls, 1943–1957 (1958). It is divided into thirteen subject headings and the individual entries of each subject are alphabetically arranged accordi...ng to the author. The preparation of this bibliography has been a laborious task and the compiler is to be commended for his painstaking efforts. It is certainly a more convenient tool than the compilations of Ch. Burchard (1957, 1965). However, two general comments relating to the arrangement of this bibliography and the author's method of listing the various entries may be offered: (1) The classification of the material into thirteen major subjects is insufficient. It would have been much more feasible to arrange the material according to individual subjects of a less encompassing nature. In the Bibliography of LaSor, the predecessor of Jongeling, the location of minor subjects is facilitated by a cursory glance at the Table of Contents (although some of the departments in the lists of B. Jongeling do contain an internal division, these are not recorded in the Contents or in a special Index, and become apparent to the reader only through a perusal of the book itself).
